Does the “self” survive death? For centuries, the afterlife was exclusively framed in terms of our religious traditions until Enlightenment thought pushed against our ideological beliefs. Scientists soon came to favor a materialistic approach to the “self.” They claimed you are your brain and when your brain stops working, your selfhood ceases to exist. In his talk, Patrick Belisle, A.R.E.’s Development Director, will share data that reveals we are more than our brains. He will provide recent studies that support how our consciousness is carried on beyond death. Archived videos will be shown from Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Edgar Cayce, Carl Sagan, Ian Stevenson, and near-death survivors themselves.
