Unearthing Montpelier

Discover the buried history and landscape of Montpelier, brought to light by Director of Archeology at The Montpelier Foundation, Matt Reeves and Winemaker Luca Paschina of Barboursville Vineyards. Matt will showcase Montpelier dig sites, the evolution of the landscape and 18th century artifacts from James Madison’s plantation home. Nearly two decades later these hands-on contributions have helped to unearth and interpret U.S. and Constitutional history. And Luca Paschina, renowned winemaker at Montpelier's neighbor Barboursville Vineyards, will discuss the unique terroir of varying mixes of clay and alluvial calcareous deposits that make for unique flavors and challenges every growing season. Includes a tasting of Barboursville's offerings.
